Love your Bellies!

Have you ever had your abdomen massaged? Most people will say no and very often many of us would be quite reluctant to have this part of our bodies touched and seen.




That has always surprised me. What most of us do not know though is how beneficial this kind of therapy can help on so many levels.

I came myself across abdominal massage for digestive and hormonal issues. But behind all of that there was a sense of being disconnected from my core, the essence of who I am and how to be comfortable in my own skin…I am still on the journey towards wholeness but there has been some amazing shifts! There are different types of abdominal massage and the ones I am combining come from the Mayan tradition, The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy™ founded on the ancient Mayan technique of abdominal massage which is an external non-invasive manipulation that repositions internal organs that have shifted, thereby restricting the flow of blood, lymph, nerve and chi , and the Chinese approach, the Neuro-lymphatic Chi Nei Stang, starting with a back massage which will open the neurolymphatic points of the body, followed by an abdominal massage with the aim of helping digestive issues, reproductive problems, detoxification or simply for a deep sense of connecting to our second brain. The arms are as well worked on as the meridian’s lines of the small and large intestines run through them.


Having your bellies touched by a caring hand helps with so many issues. There is more and more research on the subject, but conditions like the obvious ones include digestive issues, fertility, menstrual concerns but also, for example, neck and back issues. It all starts in the belly! Few books have been written and two that come to my mind are: The second brain, from Michael D. Gershon, and Gut instinct, by Pierre Pallardy. These books come as evidence that if you are feeling depressed it might have to do with your guts. We produce most of our happy hormones in our digestive track. This is why some people experience feeling down after a course of antibiotics as the body has been robbed of the good bacteria in the process and you produce less or no serotonin.


On another level (which is what I am more interested in!) there is this sense of reconnecting to something deeper. Many people experience deep emotional release as a result of removal of toxins during the massage which do not allow us to feel clearly, think properly, digest life as it is. The results can vary from person to person as each time we come to a yoga class, a massage or whatever therapy you choose we are processing something that hopefully allows us to move on, evolve, live our potential. I even had 2 cases so far of people telling me that one day after the massage they quit their job where they have been unhappy for a while. I do not claim it is only due to the treatment but the combination of being connected to their core might have helped them take the decision quicker.


An abdominal massage will not cure everything (there are other elements like rest, a good diet, plenty of sun…) but it can help you on the path of wholeness and better health. So love you bellies and be happy!
